Off to Alaska, 8/1/17, Homer

Time for another adventure. I’m really excited about this one. I’ve always had Alaska on my list of places to paddle so it’s time! I’ve connected with Angela from Expedition Engineering and since this paddle adventure is pretty demanding there was no one signed up to do the trip. Good for me as I now have a private guide for the entire journey. We will be paddling from Homer to Seward around the Kenai Peninsula. Here is the route.

We should see some whales, seals, eagles, bears and other wild life. We are also expecting to have to deal with surf launches and landings as a good part of the trip is exposed. So all in all it is looking to be an outstanding paddle.

Getting to Homer was a long day. Almost missed the connection in Seattle due to a late departure from Atlanta but made it in the nick of time. No pictures from the air due to cloud cover but I did get a couple shots from the shore in Homer.

I met Angela at the hotel and we went to dinner and discussed the trip then off to pick up some last minute supplies. After that we walked down to the shore to take a look at where we will paddle tomorrow. We’ll get a slower start in the morning since we have to wait for the post office to open up so we can send packs and travel clothes on to Seward. Here is the bay we’ll paddle across tomorrow and then head southwest to start (this picture is facing close to south. )

You can’t see them in the picture but there are glaciers in the mountains on the left side of the picture.

On day two we’ll continue west southwest and paddle around the point you see in the picture below.

That’s the end of the Kenai Peninsula.

It looks like we may have some good weather days to start and then the rain comes in. No worries, it’s a water sport and your supposed to get wet ?

I’ll be taking a lot of pictures but don’t expect to be able to do daily posts since I won’t have a connection for most of the trip. I’ll load the daily posts after the trip. With that said, you’ll still be able to follow the Paddle Tracks as they will be live via satellite all the time we are paddling.

That’s it for now. Happy Paddling

  1. Jealous we are. Go with God my friend. Be safe! Looking forward to following the journey and seeing pictures eventually.

  2. Hey bro!
Please add me to your Delorme message drop via my email so at least I will know your whereabouts along the track.
This sounds like a kick ass trip!
