March Ninth – Day Four

As usual, I was one of the first ones up and went topside to see where we were. The heavy rain and low clouds had prevented me from seeing our surroundings last night. Everything around us is beautiful and this bay is as well. A beautiful waterfall at its head and mountains all around and very protected.

Our intention was to pull the anchor and head to the next location on the list. We’ll, at least that was the plan. The anchor got caught on an old hidden mooring that had all sorts of old ropes around it. We spent the next eleven hours rigging lines to winches for extra pull and worked on getting the anchor free. I was in the dinghy all day taking lines on and off the anchor chain and cutting old ropes. Justine went for a quick swim down to tie a line lower on the anchor chain and also went up the mast once to retrieve a wayward halyard we were using. In the end, we were successful at getting the anchor back on the boat and relocating to another spot in the bay. We were also successful at ripping up one pulley from the deck and breaking the anchor windlass. So, for the rest of our adventure we will be pulling the anchor up by hand ?. Everyone was beat at the end of the day so it should be good sleep tonight. We think the bay we are in should be named Caleta “All Day” instead of Caleta Morning. Some of the good highlights for today.

Anita made lunch for all of us. We had the best fruit salads every day!
Justine made brownies for the team and delivered them topside. Yippee! This was after her swim.

That’s it for our first “no paddle” day.
